For my project I will be researching the history of the infamous gangs the Bloods and the Crips. Many people know of these two gangs, but I want to take my research towards the history of the gangs and how they became such big rivals. I am eager to see the history of these gangs and hope to fulfill my investigation.

This article gives information on how street gangs use signs and symbols to let others know (rivalries or allies) that they are on their "turf". Street gangs use tattoos, graffiti and hand signs as a way to let others know that they are on their so called "property".  In the article it goes into depth about each of the three symbols that gangs use and why they use it. 

London Gangs UK

Across the world there are problems with gangs; in this video the main location is London. The video mainly focuses on how progressively worse the gang violence has gotten among the youth of London towns. In one part of the video a woman mentions that the violence from America has spread to London, and that it's making London unsafe; the woman states, " To me it has gotten to be like America, and America is violent". I found it interesting that she had mentioned something like that, comparing London's violence to America's. Towards the end of the video you see that the government and schools are trying their best to make programs to keep the children out of the streets and try to keep them occupied. I found that intriguing that the government is really trying to help the whole situation with gangs and trying to help children get out of the violence and do something productive with their lives.

Ross Kemp is a British journalist who conducts interviews for his TV series documentaries that he produces. Kemp did a series on Los Angeles Gangs and in this particular video he was interviewing a Spanish gang known as the  Sureños from the south of Los Angeles. In the beginning of the video he is talking to several members of the gang, and towards the end he is particularly talking to one member who is known as Joker. This makes me wonder if there are any gangs this intense around the tri-state area? If there was, how would it be like then?!

Not only is there gangs in the streets, most of them reside inside of prisons. After reading this website I learned about some gangs and their history about how they came about.

Gang Busters

This article was published in 2002; even though it was over 10 years ago now I chose it because I feel like it's good to see how this whole problem was back then as to how it is now. The article mainly points towards the gangs that resided in the New York City area. The writer states that police forces have created a division  solely for gangs. Back in 2002 the head of the gang division said that "the gangs in New York were under control". Along with researching and finding this article they say that the gangs were pretty much brought up in the 1950s after the fiction gangs of West Side Story. Even thought the gangs in New York are under control, this article says that the gangs in cities, such as Los Angeles and Chicago, still have a heavy worry about the gangs in their cities.

Hi I'm Kelsey! When it was time to choose a topic I was stuck between colorism and gangs. Both topics seemed interesting, but I chose the topic of gangs because the whole concept has always fascinated me, and this project would give me the opportunity to fully research it.
